Closing the Senses

I miss you in the silence between breaths,
a shadow pressed against the walls of memory.
I love you, though the words dissolve
like salt in the tide, unspoken, unseen.

Distance is the medicine my soul demands,
a fragile thread keeping me from breaking.
I close my eyes to your unreachable light,
I seal my ears against echoes of your voice,
I still my hands that ache for your touch,
I quiet my tongue that longs to speak your name.

Love remains, a hidden flame,
but I must walk blind, deaf, and mute
through the corridors of absence,
to save myself from drowning
in the ocean of what cannot be.
