Who cares what I think anyway?

Kind of sad to see Smith go despite the hard times (even though a third year would have probably been rough). His recruiting class looked pretty good. But folks said he seemed checked out and not managing or coaching. If that’s the case, then he didn’t deserve a third year.

I’ve been a fan through the end of the Perless years, John L. Smith, Bobby Williams, some bad times at the end of Dantonio, and of course Tuck coming, so I’ve been disappointed before.

But I think Smith was a good guy. It was refreshing to see a team that had low penalties and could snap the ball without an illegal procedure penalty (excluding the Maryland game).

Here’s my complaints about Smith tho: I find it frustrating when a college team can’t perform basic football functions like completing a screen pass, a pass to the flats, having the right personnel on the field etc. Maybe we can’t RPO, but why can’t we hand the ball off and get 3 yards on an off tackle run? Also, our O Line has been injured since 2016 so there’s that as well.

Anyway, Fitz is probably the best we could find out there even if it’s not a ‘wow’ hire. Maybe our goal should be bowl eligible for a while before we look to higher achievements.
