Can a letter of rec be too old?

I was applying to REUs last year and got one letter of rec before I was accepted into an internship i ultimately accepted. Now I am applying again and am wondering if it is acceptable to apply using the letter of rec from a professor last year since it’s already there on the NSF website.

Since most places require two, it would be a combination of the one from last year and a recently submitted rec from a current professor
