So all my hard work, searching high and low for any trainers in my area, has finally paid off. I have found exactly one training program and it’s an hour away. They offer a three week board and train for 2k or a 3 week puppy day camp for $1,500. The day camp obviously requires 4 hours of driving per day, which is a deterrent for sure… and makes the board and train seem more appealing but we don’t love the idea of not seeing our puppy for 3 weeks straight either. So we hesitate to go with that option but aren’t sure we can swing 4 hours of driving without massive sacrifice.

The program seems like it sounds good to me. But what are your guys thoughts?

They train the following: sit, down, stay, recall (come), leash, place, off, leave it, and drop/out commands. Crate training, impulse control (jumping, mouthing, biting, etc), boundaries/thresholds (bum rushing at the door, staying out of the kitchen, etc).

After all that they do three private lessons to get owners up to speed on how to train/work with their dog. The day school version includes weekly private lessons on Friday and then they give owners homework on the weekends to working with their dog.

The puppy program will address most, if not all of my puppy’s behavioral issues and set a solid foundation for basic obedience.

They provide a lot of breed-specific exercise/activities and playtime with other puppies, as well as socialization with people and exposure to different environments for socialization and boosting adaptability and resilience.

Advice on the two program variations (board vs day school) and input on how the program sounds over all? It’s held on a ranch, so it sounds pretty lovely and the trainer seems to have a lot of experience, including working with very troubled dogs (such as pit bulls who are in jeopardy of euthanasia) and even has experience working with police dogs. Open to input. Thank you! Photo of my sweet boy for cuteness! He’s going on six months old. Purebred Pyr.
