Classic Lit with Deaf Character?

Hello everyone! Sorry if this post is awkward, I don't regularly post on Reddit.

I'm hard of hearing studying ASL in university, and my main hobby is reading. Some of my favorite books are Northanger Abbey, Frankenstein, and Anne of Green Gables (quite a range ☺️). I was wondering if there are any good classic books that feature Deaf characters? Preferably ones who are portrayed in a good light, but I'm open to anything. Please let me know if you know of any. I did find an interesting book from NYRB, "The Forbidden Experiment" by Roger Shattuck, but have not read it yet and I believe the subject is not Deaf but mute.

Thank you in advance!
