I’m putting in a small hedge in my North London garden and I’m stuck between beech and hornbeam. The hedge will only be about 1.2m tall and I’ve got 75cm–1m of width to play with. It will act as a divider through the middle of the garden.
The area gets full sun/partial sun, and I’m going for a natural but not wild look. Privacy isn’t really a factor since it’s just dividing the back garden.
I’ll probably buy rootballs, and it’ll be planted close to a couple of multi-stem Amelanchiers, if that makes any difference.
If anyone’s grown either of these in London it would be good to hear what you think? I think I'm leaning towards the beech but I've heard it's not as good in clay soil
