Is there any way to trade with people online anymore?

I’d love to get a Pokemon from a different country to try the Masuda Method for shiny hunting, but since the Nintendo wifi services have been shut down for years now, I’m not really sure how to do that without access to wonder trade.

Are there fan-run wifi servers that people use? Does starting a new save file on a game in a different language and then trading over a Pokémon work, even if it’s an English cartridge?

Thanks in advance! If this info helps at all, I have physical copies of both HG and SS, the Pokewalker, and multiple DS consoles (Lite, DSi, original 3DS—I’m not sure if a fan server only works on certain ones).
