The case for Texas missing the playoffs

So I’m going to say this and I want to be very very clear on why Texas should not make the playoffs. And it is NOT because of losing to OSU, You lost that game. The end. On to the other reasons Texas should not make it. And this is my objective unbiased take as an Oklahoma fan.

1: the whole “we shouldn’t have scheduled OSU and shoulda scheduled a cupcake and we woulda went 10-2” lets pump the brakes on that thought process there longhorns. You scheduled cupcakes and you SCRAPED by some of the worst teams in the country, matter of fact the only cupcakes you really dominated was SJSU and Sam Houston. In this hypothetical week 1 cupcake, why should we automatically believe you would dominate when you were objectively playing your worst football during the first half of the season? I have just a strong a case for saying you’d lose that week 1 cupcake as the horns for saying they’d win it. Texas stomping lower competition this season was NOT a foregone conclusion. I can just as easily say you’d still be 9-3 with a hypothetical cupcake week one loss as Texas can say they’d be 10-2 with a hypothetical cupcake week one win. And guess what, I’d be right and most of the country would agree with me.

2: you lost to Florida, ya that was awful, lagway and the gators have talent they just have no fucking idea they have talent. They’re BAD. Can’t lose to a team that’s won 3 games all season. On top of that you didn’t even learn your lessons and went to Kentucky to TRY to lose against one of the worst teams in the country, every year I’m reminded that Kentucky has a football team and it’s only because I flip past their channel On my way to find a better football game…. I’m not kidding about that. Like the only reason you won that game is because you kicked a field goal in double OT because mark stoops is a moron at playcalling.

3: miss state, once again scraping by on a last second touchdown. Miss state team up to this point had not won a conference game in 1 or 2 years. The announcers literally said that. That’s NOT what Texas should be doing.

4: Vanderbilt, while NOT a cupcake team almost came back to beat you in the 4th quarter at home. 21 unanswered in the 4th quarter alone. For a defense that’s supposed to be one of the best in the country this defense has some issues based on these last few games I mentioned.

5: Georgia. You got boat raced. Simple as. It was never really close and Georgia made that known. They dominated Texas, once again 21 unanswered points scored by Georgia in the 4th. Going back to that defensive thing again…..

6: ya you beat vandy, TAMU and OU. But all this does is really highlight the inconsistency of this team. The ironic thing here is (and I can speak for the Aggie fanbase here too) is that for the past 3 years the horns have said “we ain’t worried about OU/TAMU we’re focused on the playoffs” and now found themselves possibly out of the playoffs while their two biggest rivals are almost locks to be in.

7: if your coach (who in his own words) said at the beginning of the season that this was the team they were working up to this year has to now beg and plead on national television to be let in to the playoffs after being ranked #1 preseason, bet on to win it all and had the Heisman favorite, then maybe they shouldn’t be in if you have to do all that…..

All this to say that, you are (and should be) punished not for losing to OSU, but for losing to Florida and trying to lose against two of the other worst teams in the country. Once again, not for losing to OSU but for the abysmal performance against bottom feeder teams you displayed during portions of the season.
