It’s been over a year now that we’ve been living at the cabin. Me, my parents, my two sisters, and one of their friends. We came here thinking we’d just have to ride it out for a few weeks….now I’m not sure when we’ll leave.

About a year ago we started seeing news reports about a virus. It seemed serious and the news stations were advising everyone to isolate. We kept to ourselves and didn’t get too worked up over it at first. But, when the reports about military quarantines started coming in, we knew it was bad.

My Dad is a “prepper” type. So he was well prepared. We have a cabin in the mountains that he keeps stocked with food and supplies. I always thought his hobby was weird…but I was really thankful for it that day.

I had been to the cabin a few times before on weekend trips. It’s remote. Very few people know about it and even fewer are able to get to it. No running water in the house. Theres power provided by some solar panels and there’s a generator. It uses a wood stove for heat and cooking. Very basic amenities.

We had driven all night to get to the trailhead, and then spent most of the morning climbing the steep, rocky trail in my Dad’s Land Cruiser. Once we arrived at the cabin we got set up and stayed pretty busy with the daily tasks of life.

But…months went by and the news reports kept getting more grim on the radio. 6 months ago, the reports stopped all together. The radio has been completely dark for weeks now. No contact whatsoever. I’m starting to wonder if we might be alone….like…really alone.

RP prompt for an apocalyptic scenario. Family is isolated and comes to the conclusion that it’s up to them to re-populate. Happy to amend the prompt a bit if you have your own ideas. I’d like to write in the third person with someone who’s comfortable with a back and forth. Controlling characters to build a detailed world and realistic stories.
