Capped ET Tube on VV ECMO? What?

So in the CV-ICU, we have a CRITICAL ECMO Patient, who is on full support on ECMO, and usually we put the vent on rest settings. But this patient is different. They removed the ventilator, and have capped the ET Tube! I have never seen this.
