Should I just start a new band?
For the past 4 years I've been leading an indie rock band, all original songs written by myself. I paid for studio time, booked the band and managed rehearsals ect. I recorded two albums, released one in 2023 and am nearly done with the second (my engineer had to step away for personal/ life reasons.) So with about 1k instagram following, No record deal, no contracts, no money really involved, except for my own investment, I had to move away (about 3 hours) from my old town at the end of last year. My drummer is still interested in collaborating, and traveling for gigs and rehearsals, but I'm wondering if that's practical.
I’ve taken a year off from the band, but have still been writing and have another album's worth of material ready to record. I'm wondering if I should just start a new band with local people here, under a new name. It feels like starting over, and it's awkward because my 2nd album still hasn't been released, and as time goes on, I'm less excited about the songs, and the work feels less relevant.
So do I press on under the old name or start over fresh? And if I do start something new, how do I make sure my second album isn't dead on arrival? I feel like the project has lost a ton of momentum, but I want to see the project through, and am torn on how to handle this.
