how to get over the fear of preselection/social proof

18 f never dated before, I heard on other subreddits that if a guy automatically becomes more attractive if he has a girlfriend (or is otherwise taken) and girls will throw themselves at his feet. i’m scared that if I ever get a boyfriend other girls will come out of the woodwork and try to prove they’re better than me and get him to hook up with them instead. Like is that all I’d be? Just someone who gives him value by virtue of being his girlfriend and proving he’s “safe”? The fear’s gotten so bad that I don’t want to date at all. Could I ever overcome this?
