I Think I Just Ruined My Only Chance at Love

She was standing near the window again, holding her notebook like she didn’t know what to do with her hands. Something about her felt off today… quieter, tense, almost like she was waiting for someone who never came.

I noticed it the moment I walked into the corridor. My heartbeat picked up instantly— not because I was going to talk to her, but because I knew if I didn’t move now, I never would.

I took a step forward. Then another. And for some reason, each step made the air feel heavier, like the whole moment was slipping away from me.

She checked her phone. Locked it. Unlocked it again. Her fingers were shaking a little. That’s when a small panic hit me— was something wrong?

I whispered her name under my breath, practising it, hoping my voice wouldn’t crack when I actually said it.

I got close enough to call her. Close enough to finally say something real.

But right then— she wiped her eyes quickly and turned around.

And she walked away. Not fast. Not slow. Just… in a way that made it clear she had already made a decision.

I froze. My stomach dropped. And one thought kept repeating in my head:

“Did I wait too long?”
