Small vent abt tip-baiting
Sorry if this is the wrong place to put it, but I’m just so tired.
My mother does Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Grubhub part time to support our family.
In 4 months, she’s done 950 trips on UBER ALONE. She’s been tip-baited five times, and 3/5 we’ve called support and gotten reimbursed.
However, the last 2 times happened recently (on 11/28 and the other one this afternoon) and both times, calling an agent no longer works?
Usually we call the agent and they start with the “the customer can do whatever they want, a supervisor won’t do anything” BS, but I’m able to get through to the supervisor. My mom has a weak throat, so it’s easier for me to just speak for her.
BUT, in the past few days/hours, suddenly it’s gotten much more difficult? I’ve had support agents blatantly hang up on me, actually the guy I just spoke to right now (he was Indian with a THICK FUCKING ACCENT) had me on speaker while he had a bunch of other people in the background laughing (pissed me off) and then was just talking absolute bullshit. I straight-up asked him “Do you know which trip I’m referring to?” and he said the wrong one.
He then hung up. On the Uber eats app, now, when I click on “help,” I can’t even START A NEW CHAT WITH THE AI OR ANYTHING. It’s just frozen on the most recent log I had with the other guy. I logged out of the account, deleted the app, reinstalled, restarted my phone, etc.
Still nothing. It’s fucking ridiculous.
My mom, mind you it’s fucking where I am, took a trip that was $11.68 for 7 miles. We both acknowledged it was shitty to begin with (around 1.55/1.60 a mile) but it had been VERY slow and she was just looking to do one or two trips before heading home. BECAUSE IT’S FUCKING SNOWING.
She completes the delivery perfectly, no stops, the food was still hot because we have a hot bag (this jackass ordered from an upscale burger restaurant, like those burger joints that sell a single burger for 20 dollars) and delivered it as a Meet at Door to some guy working at a bridal shop.
He greeted my mom, said thank you, was all kind and whatever.
And then he revoked the tip. She only got paid 3 fucking dollars for the entire trip.
This is utterly deplorable. DD and Grubhub in our area absolutely suck and have the worst offers, but at least there’s no tip revoking. I don’t even know if this guy was tip baiting because the distance from the shop to his work was about 5 miles anyway. I guess he was just an ass.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get through to a supervisor? Any words of advice? I just feel for my mom and I’m urging her to find some other form of side hustle.
It’s fucking ridiculous and damn near shameful for the agents to also treat you like shit. When I tell you that agent had a bunch of other people speaking in the background super loudly, and he was ignoring me for 30 minutes before hanging up?
Yeah.
Rant over. If you’ve read this far, appreciate it.
