Chance me for Northwestern

chanceme

Hi, current freshman (econ and math joint major) at Boston University. From Chicago and want to be closer to home, not to mention Northwestern is generally cheaper than BU. The economics program is slightly upgraded too, which is a plus.

Transfer to: Northwestern econ program

HS stats: (not going to sugar-coat like I am on my application)

- 1500 SAT (probably should submit?)

- 3.89UW (3 B's in last sem...) 5.11W (top 5% but not ranked)

- 8 APs, 18 Honors, 5s in Macro, Micro, Gov

- AP Scholar w/ discretion

- Honor Roll all 4 years

EC:

- CIEE summer study abroad student (2x) and later school ambassador for program (also awarded merit scholarships)

- ~25hr/wk part time job as cook (contributed to family bills)

- Photography as hobby but won 2 Scholastic gold keys, 2 silver for 5 submitted works

- Part-time welding student during senior year, counts as job?

- Ukrainian relief program, virtual calls with citizens to teach English and emotional support

- Cultural club choreographer, various other clubs (~6hrs/wk)

Had serious mental health issues throughout high school and just got diagnosed with ADHD (hopefully explains my poor ECs and crash in second semester?)

White, Male, low income and single parent household (<35k), 2 sisters in college, live in Chicago (other than being at BU)

College stats:

- Probably 3.7 for first semester, taking easier classes next semester for hopefully a 4.0

- Taking 2nd level Micro (201) and a 300 level macro elective (econ development in Asia), next semester is dialed back to meet some gen-ed but taking calc 2 for my major (swapped recently and will have to take 201 again but with applied math later)

- Research assistant for economic research

- Member of Undergrad econ association

- 3 other clubs

Honestly the community here is not what I expected, I feel disconnected socially and everyone around me comes from a higher background. I applied ED because it was the lowest cost available and my SAT before I retook was a 1410, so this seemed like my best option, given their econ program.

Questions:

Will the courses I'm taking, specifically my junior-level econ class be of any benefit? Also will transferring from BU help at all, I've heard some people say theres grade deflation here?
+ any recommendations to help improve my current application?

Thanks guys I appreciate any help :)
