Coworker complained about my hoodie after 7 months — feels like there’s a racial angle to it

(24M) work at a nursing home as a receptionist. I was told by the administrator that I can’t wear hoodies while working at the front desk. It threw me off because I’ve been wearing hoodies to work since I started, which was 7 months ago, and no one had said ANYTHING to me about it.

One of my biggest principles is the “Why Now?” — meaning if you haven’t said or done anything about it before, why suddenly take action now? Mind you, I work right in front of the doors letting people in and out, and I still feel the cold air hitting me every time the doors open. So I thought this new rule was asinine and I got upset about it.

The next day, I was told that another employee had told the admin that wearing hoodies at the front desk “aren’t a good look.” That made me even more frustrated because 1. People at work don’t mind their business as usual & 2. The admin lets employees influence her decisions. That alone tells me everything I need to know about her, and I lost a significant amount of respect in that moment.

The lady who snitched is an older white woman, and I can’t help but feel like I was being stereotyped because I’m a black man wearing a hoodie. It’s crazy because I stayed to myself at work, minding my own business, and I’ve always been respectful toward her whenever we talked, so finding out she did this just changed how I see her entirely.
