is this a reasonable itinerary for 2 long layovers? first is 30 hours and second is 8 hours.

Questions/ Tips

hello! i will be going to the philippines in february 2026 and my long haul flights are between los angeles and hong kong. on the way there i will have a 30 hour layover and on the way home an 8 hour layover. i'm down to be busy and walk a ton the whole day, but is this a reasonable schedule? i am a woman in my late 20s from california and will be traveling solo.

first layover (30hr on a saturday in early feb): victoria peak, central, tsa shim shui, & night markets

  • flight lands 6:15am saturday, hope to be out of the airport by 7am. 30 minute train to central + 20min walk to hotel to drop bags. i have the Conrad booked, but is the Motto by Hilton a better location? i am booking free with hilton points so price is irrelevant.

  • taxi up to Victoria Peak, aiming to arrive at the peak by 8:30am. hoping to avoid huge crowds but it'll be a saturday near lunar new year so i think it's unavoidable. hang out at the peak, eat breakfast, walk around. take the tram back down (sit on left side for views?). if i buy my ticket online ahead of time is there still a huge hours-long line to get the tram back down?

  • walk back to central and wander around for a couple hours, escalators, eat lunch, shop, whatever. anything specific you recommend here?

  • rest/nap back at hotel around 2-3pm ish

  • star ferry to tsa shim sui around 4-5pm, walk along promenade, sightsee, wander.

  • metro to mong kok around 6pm and start making my way south on foot using this map as a guide--first mong kok markets (flower/goldfish/ladies), then yau ma tei (temple street, jade market), and granville road at the end. i aim to get to temple street (main market?) around 7pm because I read it doesn't get lively until it's dark out? and i'll eat dinner somewhere along the way, i am assuming there's lots of street food around right?

  • ferry/train/whatever back to hotel on hong kong island and sleep. in the morning take the airport express around 7:30am to catch my 10am flight to cebu.

second layover (8hr on a saturday in late feb): lantau island

  • flight lands 3:15pm, hope to be out of the airport by 4pm, take S1 bus to tung chung station.

  • 360 crystal cable car ride 1-way from tung chung to ngong ping. i know the last car up is at 6pm so i am hoping the lines won't be too bad. is this realistic? then if the lines are short and i make it up to ngong ping by 5pm, climb the stairs to big buddha, enjoy views.

  • taxi from ngong ping back to airport. ideally i'd like to stop somewhere along the way for dinner but i'm not seeing much on the map. any recs?

  • flight leaves 12:15am

i'm bummed i'm missing lunar new year celebrations but the dates just didn't work out. thanks everyone!
