Validating an idea: Domain search history & tracking tool
I'm in the validation phase of a side project and would love honest feedback from fellow builders.
The idea: A tool that automatically saves every domain you search, organizes them, and alerts you when domains become available.
Why I'm questioning it: I've hit that moment where I'm asking: "Is this a real problem or am I just building something I think is cool?"
What I've found so far:
- Read 50+ Reddit/Twitter threads where people mentioned losing track of domain ideas
- Most registrars don't save search history
- People seem to use spreadsheets or notes as workarounds
But I need to validate:
- Have you ever lost track of a good domain idea? How often?
- Is this a "need to have" or "nice to have" for you?
- How do you currently track domain searches?
- Would you actually use a tool like this, or is it one of those "sounds good but I'd never actually use it" ideas?
What I'm NOT doing:
- Not promoting anything (still in validation)
- Not trying to sell you anything
- Just genuinely trying to understand if this is worth building
Would especially love to hear from:
- Solo founders who've gone through the naming process
- Anyone who researches domains regularly
- People who've lost track of good domain ideas
Thanks in advance for your honest feedback!
