Scholar is going to be OP. Let's do some math (and speculate a little)...
Some things we know to be true:
- You can have a maximum of 8 item slots in Nightreign (at least, right now). Scholar can hold double the number of items that regular Nightfarers can. 4 pots per slot = 32 maximum pots
- Vendors never run out of fire pots, so I feel like these will be a staple for offensive Scholars because they're easy to come by.
- The damage dealt by fire pots depends on the enemy's fire resist, but for live enemies I've tested against, it's usually around 165 dmg (tested against the marionette soldier in the sparring grounds, dogs, and an elder lion).
With all that info, what could an offensive scholar build theoretically do in terms of damage output, using a fire pot build as an example?
Relic effects you'd want to target (all stack with themselves):
- 3× Fire Attack Up + 2 (boosts by 6.5%)
- 3× Fire Attack Up + 4 (boosts by 12%)
- 3× Improved Affinity Attack Power + 2 (boosts by 10%)
- 3× Improved throwing pot damage (boosts by 15%)
Ideal Talisman:
- Small Jar Companion (boosts by 12%)
Obviously, you're not going to roll all these relics. But what if you only got a few of them? What if you were able to grab 3 improved throwing pot damage, 2 fire Atk + 4, and 1 improved affinity Atk Power (which is tough but very doable).
Math:
165 × (1.15^3) × (1.12^2) × 1.1
Each throwing pot would do 346 damage.
But these are basic, level 1 fire pots. In the trailer for Scholars move showcase, it shows him throwing a lightning pot at a banished Knight and it hits twice.
If (and this is a big if) maxing the level of ALL throwing pots causes them to hit twice (i.e. it's not just unique to lightning pots, now we're talking about nearly 700 damage per pot. That's more damage than recluse does casting shattering crystal.
Just for a fun thought experiment-- what if we achieved the perfect build with the small jar talisman?
(165 × (1.15^3) × (1.12^3) × (1.065^3) × (1.1^3) × 1.12) × 2
Thats around 1270 damage.
And it has an AOE to hit nearby mobs. And his character skill can link it to multiple enemies at once.
Again, unlikely we'll see numbers like these in the wild, especially in the early days, but it just goes to show how much potential he could have.
And this is saying nothing of his S in arcane.
