Unsent letter explaining the kind of love you are not, and the sister I still hope to find

Friends

Hey D

It’s not anger. It’s not blame. It’s just the truth I’ve been carrying alone for far too long.

What I’m about to say, all the softness and longing and ache none of it is about you. It isn’t yours. You are not the person I’m speaking to in my heart. You never have been.

I think the confusion happened because when you showed up, I had nobody. No friends. No family I could depend on. Nobody who cared in the way I needed. And when you’re starving, even crumbs feel like a feast.

But what I’m longing for, what has been breaking me from the inside out … is something much deeper. Something you cannot give. Something I still pray exists somewhere in the world.

I’m not looking for romance. I’m not looking for someone to fix my entire life. I’m not even asking for something constant every single day.

I’m longing for a sister. Not by blood, but by heart. The kind of sister a person finds once in a lifetime.

Someone who loves me even when I’m far away. Someone who bridges distance because they want me close, even if physical closeness is only possible once in a while

Someone who sees me however broken or tired and says, You’re not alone.”

Right now, I don’t have that. Right now, I have no one. And that emptiness is hard. So hard it feels like a weight pressing into my ribs every time I breathe.

It’s hard going through life without a single person who chooses you, who loves you in a steady, gentle way,who thinks of you on ordinary days and includes you in their world not out of obligation, but because they can’t imagine their life without you in it.

That is what I ache for. A sister friend. A person who shows up. A person who doesn’t disappear. A person who doesn’t make me feel like I’m asking for too much just by wanting to matter.

You aren’t that person. And that’s not an accusation it’s simply reality. You’ve said yourself you can’t give me closeness. You can’t be consistent. You can’t let me in. You can’t offer the kind of love that reaches across the miles and still holds on.

And I’ve finally stopped trying to turn you into something you’re not.

This letter is my way of telling you that my longing this deep, aching hunger for connection is not about you failing me. It’s about me having been alone for so long that I don’t even know what it feels like to be loved anymore .

I just want someone who would treat me the way I would treat them. Someone who would love me like a sister, because right now I don’t have anyone in the world who fills that role.

And sometimes the loneliness of that is unbearable.

I hope someday I find her …the friend who becomes my chosen family the one who crosses oceans or states or time zones and still makes me feel close, the one who thinks I’m worth the effort even when life is chaotic, the one who gives me a reason to feel like I belong on this earth.

But it won’t be you. I know that now. And this letter, this longing isn’t meant to pull you closer. It’s just the truth I’ve been holding alone.

Someday, I hope I find the sister I’ve been searching for. Because living without one has been so, so hard.

With grace I let you go.
