Overweight fella needs a bike

Just took the training wheels of my 5 and 7 year old bikes so im ready to do family bike rides. What is a decent bike for a fella like myself at 310lbs... Not trying to break the bank. Guy at the local bike shop tried to sell me a Giant Talon for 600.00. NOT!
