Texas - 30 days after moving out, landlord hasn't provided itemized list for deposit

Location: Texas

Today marks 30 days since my lease ended at my previous rental. From what I understand, Texas law requires the landlord/property manager to provide an itemized list of any deductions and return the remaining portion of the security deposit within 30 days of move-out.

However, I also learned that the tenant must provide a forwarding address in order to trigger that 30-day requirement. We were unaware of this, and the property manager never requested or mentioned needing a forwarding address during or after our tenancy.

There’s also a lease clause stating that we weren’t allowed to drill holes or mount TVs/shelves. We did mount a few things over the years, so that part is on us — but the property manager had visited several times and saw these items, yet didn’t mention it until the last month before we moved out.

So I’m trying to figure out:

• Does the 30-day deadline still apply if we didn’t know to provide a forwarding address? • Is the landlord required to at least request a forwarding address before withholding the deposit? • Does any of this fall under bad-faith withholding on their end?

What are our options at this point? Just trying to understand where the line is legally.
