Post thanksgiving nightmare
I feel conflicted about even posting this but I’m annoyed and need a place vent this out.
My mom died 9 years ago. When she died my brother and I dealt with paying for funeral while my sister and dad got to focus on their needs. In the wake of it my sister moved out of my parents (dads) house and took a bunch of his furniture and other things, even his bed. Then she met her now husband and when she did she moved in with him returned my dad’s furniture and wrecked to shit.
Then she got engaged, wanted all of the fixings engagement party, bridal shower, wedding gifts etc. she asked for a lot. During and after she bellyached about how everyone let her down.
She complained that her in-laws didn’t pay for anything when they helped pay for her wedding. She complained her friends didnt throw her a bachelorette party that she wanted. She complained about the bridal party not doing enough.
Then got pregnant had multiple baby showers and played the pity party on both sides of the family, again! Her in-laws ain’t doing enough. Now she has the kid, and it’s again more and more playing angles.
Well during thanksgiving we went to my dad’s place for dinner (this was the first time in 9 years) and like a time capsule that place still has collections my mom had still up. Now I’ve been to the house a lot and I’ve seen how my dad lives in that space with a new lady and she wants stuff moved out. He’s mentioned ridding some collections before. Then my brother mentions we need to get rid of things there just to cleanse it.
So what do I do?
My dad has offered stuff to my sister who didn’t start moving any of this stuff in 9 years.
I look into pricing and inquiring on areas for part of the collection.
I find potential buyers and as a final thing so I don’t start drama I check in with my sister.
She gets pissed and says it’s all hers and offended that I was going to put it up for sale. I said I thought we could use the funds to help take a family trip with all of our families and do something together. She didn’t like that idea at all and gets huffy and hasn’t talked to me since.
I’ll be blunt. When my wife and I got married we did it in our house during Covid. No card. When we had a kid no extravagant party. I’m dealing with a health issue. I love their kid but fuck man, this makes me really averse to wanting to spend anytime around them for the holidays. Part of me feels like I’m being bitter and I don’t like that at all. More of me is annoyed because I feel like she’s being entitled and at this point it’s overly obnoxious and I’m not sure what to do. Advice welcome.
