I Still Can’t Let Go of Someone Who Chose Another Girl After Knowing I Loved Him -3Years Later

It’s been 3 years since we lost contact. We were together as best friends slowly turning into something more — for 1.5 years. I’m F24 now, he’s M30 , back then I was 21, he was 27.

During that time, our feelings grew strong. He told me he had a crush on me and that he loved me. Three months later, I confessed my love too. He already knew because I would get jealous when he talked to another girl during breaks. When I admitted my feelings, he told me he wanted me too he had been waiting for me to accept his love. Our connection became stronger, more romantic, and he made me feel like I was “the one.”

But one month later, everything changed.

He started distancing himself… because he began a relationship with her. At that moment, he was choosing between me and her and he chose her, even after knowing I loved him. It completely broke me.

We fought and didn’t talk for a week. Then he came back saying I’m special, he misses me, he wants me forever, and he doesn’t want to lose me. But he prioritized her. He called her every night instead of me, delayed my messages, and gradually drifted away. By the end of that year, suddenly he stopped talking to me completely.

It’s been almost 3 years of no contact. He broke up with her a year ago and tried reaching me first by texting (I blocked him because I was hurting), then by following me on Instagram multiple times, but every time he removed the request before even 24 hours passed.

And I don’t know why… but I’m still attached. I still dream about him randomly, and those dreams bring all the pain back.

My psychiatrist told me that sometimes when someone appears in your dreams without you thinking about them, it can mean they’re thinking about you ، that maybe there’s still some emotional connection.

But I’m exhausted from feeling this way.

Why am I still loving him, missing him this much, and feeling jealous over him even though we haven’t had any connection for almost 3 years? How can I get over him?
