Hey Reddit! I’m excited to share my latest personal project: Budget Buddy TUI
—a completely text-based user interface (TUI) application for managing personal finance, built entirely in Python.

I spend most of my day in the terminal, and I wanted a fast, keyboard-driven way to manage my finances without the bloat of opening a web browser or expensive android app.

Key Features:
Termux/Terminal Interface: Built using the powerful rich library, everything is displayed in clean, colorful, and responsive panels and tables right in your console.

Local & Secure Storage: All data is stored locally in an easy-to-manage SQLite database. No external servers or cloud dependencies.

Transaction Management: Seamlessly add, view (with paginated cards), and delete income and expense transactions.

Custom Categories & Filtering: Define your own spending categories and use powerful filtering to quickly analyze specific expenses.

Reporting: Get quick Weekly and Detailed
Monthly Summaries of your income, expenses, and net balance.

Savings Goal Tracking: Set specific targets and track your progress. Transfers to your goal are clearly marked in the transaction history with the new 💸 Savings icon.

Recurring Templates: Set up templates for regular bills or subscriptions and easily apply them, or let the app automatically apply them on the due day.

Upcoming Calendar: Get a quick view of recurring expenses due in the current week.

Why a TUI?
The responsiveness and speed are fantastic. It’s designed to be navigated quickly using minimal keystrokes, making logging a transaction or checking your net balance take seconds.

Technical Stack:
Language: Python
UI/Styling: rich
Database: sqlite3

I’d love to hear your feedback on the feature set, the design, or any quality-of-life improvements you think would make using a terminal finance app even better!
