Verso
Something I feel like people don't talk about enough (or maybe I just havent seen it) is how much Versos ending in Act 3 mirrors Versos sacrifice before the game.
TLDR, Alicia is tricked by the writers and their house is set ablaze. Alicia is trapped in the fire and about to die but Verso rushes to save her at the cost of his own life.
Fast forward to the events of the game and despite initially wanting the canvas to be destroyed, in Act 3 you get the sense that Verso is willing to let the canvas survive. He has grown attached to people like Lune and Sciel, he cares for Maelle/Alicia. But what makes him do a 180 is seeing how quickly Aline rushes back to the canvas despite being told she'd never find it. He's then shown by Renior what she's like in the house in her grief, how it's killing her. He then notices that Maelle/Alicia lied to Renior when she said she wasn't going to stay in the canvas.
He then decides to make the choice to destroy the canvas. In the end, Verso destroys the canvas in part at least, to save his sister, knowing it will kill him and the last part of "real" Versos soul.
When he's cradling Maelle/Alicia in his arms after defeating her he mirrors "real" Versos final words to Alicia "everything is going to be okay".
In the end, Verso sacrificed himself twice to save his little sister and despite what ending you prefer, I think that is very beautiful.
