Update: Botched Water Heater Install

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Plumbing/s/XaZK6IWLtO

Called the plumbing company back to speak to a manager. He immediately said he wasn't a licensed plumber or electrician and I needed to talk to the plumber who did the install. Pretty much new how that was going to end up, but talked to the plumber. Told him that the way the electrical cord was hooked up was against code. He said he wasnt an electrcian and didnt know the electrical codes. Then said the cord wouldn't fit in the hole so he had to do it that way. I then asked him if he doesn't know the codes and the cable didn't fit then why did he install it instead of talking to me. He got pretty combative after that. Started saying he should have charged me 10 hours instead of 4 to do the job all "neat and pretty". Also asked him if he read the instructions before starting. Then pointed out the instructions stated that you need 7" of clearance on all sides. This water heater exhausts the air out the back of the unit. He has the unit shoved against the back wall, partially blocking the air flow. He just kept coming up with excuses. I gave up and asked him to have the manager call me back. I sure as he'll don't want him coming back to fix it, but my wife thinks we have an obligation to at least let them try to fix it before we refuse to pay. I believe they have other plumbers. I did call another plumber and they can come out tomorrow after lunch. Do I just refuse to pay and let the new company come out or am I obligated to let the first company try to make it right?

Also, they left the old water heater sitting in my driveway. Is that typical that it is up to the home owner to dispose of it? This is a hybrid unit with refrigerant so you can't just throw it in the trash. I'm not sure who to even call to get it properly disposed of.
