What is the hive doing with the 30 billion chickens in the world?

SpoilerDiscussion

They can’t survive without human intervention, and they especially need feeding. If they just get released into the wild it’s a death sentence. Does the hive keep them alive and wait for them to die of old age? Would the hive maintain cruel farming practices or would it allocate more land for farming use, thus harming wild animals? If the hive built a chicken coop to protect the chickens from foxes, would that mean they have harmed the foxes by denying them a meal? But would it be harmful to not build the coop as it would mean allowing the chicken to die?

This extends to other domesticated animals but chickens have the largest population.
