I find the lack of respect for George Lucas disturbing.
I feel like the fandom really likes to have their own head canon, and also other creators. That’s fine, but ultimately George is, and always will be, the “final say” for me personally.
His storytelling can be lackluster, the writing can be terrible, and he does appeal to the masses for a buck at times.
But star wars is his baby. Period. My main irk with the fandom of all ages, Disney, and other creators is that there doesn’t seem to be that understanding anymore.
It’s not about what we think Star wars should be. The canon is what he says it is. Period. For some reason that appears unacceptable to much of the fan base and other storytellers. Going all the way back to the prequels. It’s okay to dislike aspects of his movies. It’s okay to feel like other creators have written, directed, and/or produced better stories (in any of the mediums).
But ultimately he is the foundation of what we love. I think if fans and creators respected that, things would be far more simple.
That may be limiting to future storytelling, but that’s sort of the point of things, isn’t it? All good things must come to an end. Now what we have is something that just feels empty to me. Devoid of meaning.
The original 6 films sit outside all other content created to me (including tv shows made before Disney). They sit alone to me. And they really only make sense if they are separate from all other content made. Even things Lucas loosely green lit for a buck.
Thanks for reading yall. May the force be with you!
