Landlord won’t prorate my rent
Apartment complex request you give 60 day notice if you’re renewing or not. Gave notice on the 16th of October. Reached out to current complex to request prorate rent for December as I can move into new on the 15th of December.
Had a phone call to which they told me the estimated rent and the earliest I could move out was the 16th which is no problem cos I wanted to stay until the 18th. I was told that it would be no problem and should expect an email. I got an email 5 minutes before the office closed stating:
“Since your lease is up at the end of December and your notice is to move out at the end of the month, we would need the full payment for December as to not accrue a penalty for breaking the lease early.”
This seems like absolute BULLSHIT. I’ve lived in other places where I was given a prorate for my last month.
What should I do? Is this allowed?? Any advice would be appreciated
Note original notice was for me to not renew and naturally stated I’ll move out the end of month but that was literally 60+ days in advance… there’s no guarantee.
