How long would y'all wait before filing a PayPal dispute with a boot maker ?

For context: I ordered a pair of American alligator boots from a maker in Texas. Everything seemed fine at first — he accepted my request to pay via PayPal G&S and sent me an invoice. He told me the turnaround time would be 30 days (I placed the order on Nov 3).

About two weeks ago, he messaged me saying the boots had shipped and that he’d emailed me photos. Problem is… he absolutely did not send me any photos, and my Shop app shows no tracking info.

I asked him for the tracking number on Sunday, and he replied that he couldn’t get ahold of his employee at the shop but would get back to me Monday. Well, Monday came and went — no updates, no phone call, no pics, nothing.

I get that they’re a small business and it’s the busiest time of year, so I’ve been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. But when I checked their website’s customer chat, I was told the boots actually haven’t shipped yet and won’t until next Monday. Since then, both the maker and their customer service have gone radio silent — no replies to my calls, FB messages, or chat follow-ups.

I paid through PayPal G&S, so I don’t really understand why he’d try to scam me (or think he could). I was planning to give him another week or two, but honestly my spidey senses are tingling now.

What would you do? Should I file a dispute right away, or give them more time?

(Yes I used AI to proof read this post my Grammer and general typing absolutely suck)
