Positions change...life changes...get over it.
Got a high level youngster, who is generally regarded as the fastest on his team and battles with another kid for most goals during the season but he is generally a pass first, shoot second type of player. His team plays up and is highly ranked in our state.....every time I think I got a beat on what I think he likes or what he excels at.....it changes.....
His soccer journey so far......
u8 (5v5) - Coach said he had no fear but was reckless....cried about his first yellow...hasnt gotten one since. Ran around like a maniac.....not playing a position necessarily.
u9 (7v7) - played exclusively right back for fall season, started making field length runs to score and as such, coach gave him opportunities to play at wing and striker
u10 (9v9) - both wings and striker, striker in futsal
u11 (9v9) - both wings and striker, fixo for futsal and recently coach is playing him at the 6 and 8 during scrimmages and mentioned he wants him there more because of his vision and passing but will miss his elite speed on the wing.
So why am I sharing this? Well because I think his positioning will change more over the next couple years as he grows and matures.....so when I see these posts of 9 year old "strikers" or parents frustrated with their sons position......just remember, the only thing certain is uncertainty....let your child blossom and figure out where he excels....because I still am
