Feeling disconnected on a trip with my boyfriend (28/M with 26/F, 4-year relationship
“I just returned from a trip with my boyfriend (28/M), and I’m 26/F. We’ve been together for four years, and I thought this would be a fun escape — exploring new places and making memories together.
Surprisingly, most of the time, I felt emotionally alone. It wasn’t that he wasn’t physically there, but there was a distance I couldn’t bridge.
In the past, he used to notice my little quirks and gestures, smile at them, and make me feel appreciated. This time, he still smiled, but his reactions didn’t feel the same. Sometimes, he seemed irritated by small playful things I did, which left me feeling more distant.
Even though he was sitting next to me, his attention felt elsewhere. I tried talking, laughing, and connecting, but often it felt like I was the only one invested in making the trip enjoyable.
It’s confusing — I’ve loved him for years, yet I feel this emptiness when we’re supposed to be having quality time.
Has anyone been in a similar situation with a long-term partner? How did you navigate feeling emotionally disconnected while still trying to maintain the relationship? What helped you reconnect?”
TL;DR: Went on a trip with my boyfriend (28/M) while I’m 26/F. We’ve been together for 4 years, but I felt emotionally disconnected and noticed he was reacting differently to my little gestures. Seeking advice on reconnecting and handling emotional distance.
