Was I wrong for pointing out a public IG photo of my FIL’s girlfriend to my MIL/SIL?

Here’s the background:

My FIL is dating a younger woman. When my boyfriend’s family found out, they all confronted him and told him the relationship was wrong, but he kept seeing her. I’ve always told my boyfriend that he can have his own opinions, but at the end of the day his dad is going to make his own choices.

Meanwhile, my MIL and SIL have been venting to me for months about how they feel about the situation. I always listened and never judged.

One day, I was scrolling on Instagram and my FIL’s girlfriend’s profile popped up on my suggested accounts. Her username looked familiar because my SIL had shown me her profile before. Her profile picture showed her with another guy. I didn’t send any screenshots or anything — I simply asked my MIL and SIL to look at her profile too because I was surprised.

They checked it, confirmed it was her, and were shocked. I didn’t say anything else after that.

A couple days later, my BIL texted me saying:

“Since you want to be all up in my dad’s business and send screenshots of my dad’s girl to my mom and sister, you need to be the one to show him what you found. If you don’t tell him, I will make sure to tell my dad what you’re doing.”

( Mind you, i never sent screenshots!)

I was honestly shocked and confused. I didn’t go snooping — her profile is public. I only brought it up because MIL and SIL have been talking about the situation with me for months. I thought it was a normal conversation, not something that would get blown out of proportion or used against me.

Now I feel like my trust was broken, and somehow I’m being blamed for drama I didn’t start.

So my questions are: – Was I wrong for pointing it out? – Is it supposed to be my job to say anything to FIL? – How do I even handle boundaries with his family after this?
