Dustins, current character development

So Ive seen alot of people disliking what the show is doing with Dustin. Because hes obviously depressed and deeply impacted by the loss of Eddie. I think what happening is a good example of great story telling. Dustin is in my top 3 favorite characters love his younger, more optimistic self. But if the writers would've come into this season after leaving the last season on the death of Eddie, with Dustin beeing all happy and barely phased then it would've taken away so much from the story and his character in general. Just my thoughts been seeing all the post of people saying they dont lile they new depressed Dustin but I feel like there no other way for it go after what happened in season 4
