Online order canceled, gift card refund?

Hello I hope someone can confirm I didn't get the run around. I ordered something online for instore pickup (says instock) and paid with a gc. A few hours later an email from lowes told me the order is canceled bc they actually dont have the item. with HD they issue a replacement store credit card at the customer service desk but Lowes is saying they will send me a replacement gc. is that true? Thanks!
