Is there a reason I couldn’t push/pop start my manual 2014 Mazda 3 today?

I woke up to a dead battery, and my jumper cables weren’t any good. I have the 6 speed manual, a couple neighbors gave me a good push across my parking lot. Had it up to about 15mph, and I dumped my clutch in 1st and also in 2nd across multiple tries. I haven’t had to do this in years, but my older manuals would fire right up after this.

Is there something about the fob, button start that prevented me from cranking over?
