Will a US university accept an international student with a GED?

So I’m from Sweden and I couldn’t complete the regular high school diploma here but I just completed the GED with pretty good scores. I’ve been wanting to go to college in America for some time now and I was wondering if you know if universities accept an international student with a GED. I’ve also heard that it would potentially be easier to go to a community college first so let me know what you know.
