Need some advices for jellyfin server, beginner
Hey everyone, I’m planning to recycle some old parts to build a small home server and I’d love some advice. I’ve got a i5 9600K, an MSI Z390 board, 32GB of RAM, a RTX 2080, and a 750W PSU. My main goal is to run a Jellyfin server for 1 to 4 simultaneous users max, mostly 1080p and maybe 1440p, with no 4K. I’d also like to occasionally host game servers like modded Minecraft, Valheim, or similar titles.
My question is: do I even need the 2080 for this setup? Is it possible to run everything just using the 9600K, or would it be smarter to sell the GPU (or even the whole setup) and move to more efficient hardware? I’m also considering switching to an ITX case to save space.
I’m very new to home servers because I just finished building my new gaming PC and I’m only now starting to learn about home hosting. Any guidance would be appreciated!
