Social Media and The Modern Internet Offer Little Peace of Mind
There is always something to fight against, something to cry over, and something to get angry at.
At least according to the modern web. And maybe I'm just strange, but all in all... who really cares?
So a friend of mine has been trying to get me to buy a Steam Deck, because they say it's a great mobile gaming platform, and they urged me to donate to these developers that are making an app/extension that will help users "sift through AI slop" and went on a tirade about AI and how it doesn't belong in gaming, and all the while I was thinking:
"You don't need to download anything AI if you don't want to, but if someone wants to, so what? It's their life, their choice."
And it made me realize that this is what the modern internet does: causes people to get angry at mere hypotheticals, and divide people over petty things.
Imagine if the algorithm saw that a lot of people were becoming wholly against bubble gum, no particular reason for it, but just someone with a large social media following decided to make a video titled "I HATE bubble gum, and you should too", 180 million views, 175 million shares, likes, comments, the works. And soon other people begin to air out their grievances towards this age-old confectionary treat.
Suddenly shops that sell bubble gum are under fire, people are divided, they fight, destroy, worse!
People who are sane and don't go on social media would think "This is stupid. It's bubble gum."
But here we are.
