☄️ Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS Flares Ice jets surprise scientists 👇

Astronomers observing the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS report that new images show signs of so-called ice volcanoes erupting from its surface, sending jets of gas and frozen material into space. The object is only the third confirmed visitor from outside our solar system, making every new measurement highly valuable to researchers.

Experts report that as 3I/ATLAS moves closer to the Sun, this cryovolcanic activity appears to be actively reshaping its coma and tail. The jets may be exposing fresh material from the comet’s interior, potentially offering clues about the conditions in the distant system where it originally formed, before it traveled into our solar neighborhood.

Comparisons with the two previous interstellar objects, 1I/‘Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov, suggest that these unique visitors can behave quite differently from typical solar-system comets. While Borisov looked relatively conventional, the intense activity observed on 3I/ATLAS indicates an unusual internal structure or composition that astronomers are currently trying to model.

In the coming months, observatories around the world will continue tracking the comet’s changes in brightness, color, and the structure of its jets. Those detailed observations are intended to help refine models of how 3I/ATLAS is rotating, venting, and interacting with the solar wind as it passes through the inner solar system.
