Called office because of unsafe student behavior and no one came

Discussion

Yesterday I was subbing in an elementary general ed classroom and one of the students had a full-blown meltdown. Screaming at the top of her lungs, knocking over chairs, saying “NO” repeatedly, and she even threw a pencil toward me.

There was a student teacher with me and they called the office for help because the situation was clearly unsafe. No one came. Only when the teacher next door heard the screaming was when someone stepped in to help with the child.

Apparently no one responded because there was a sub working the front office and the principal was “in meetings all day.”

Is this a huge red flag for the school, or does this kind of thing happen a lot?
