GX-100 as the brains of a larger pedalboard

Hello! I'm currently in the long process of building my dream board. I only have a tonex and Big Sky at the moment. I want to get the midi benefits out of them while I build out my board and cover the FX I don't have yet. That's why I'm considering the GX - 100.

Please be kind as I am brand new to midi and am having trouble understanding it. I have read that the GX - 100 can send midi messages. All I want to do is use the GX to change presets on the big sky and Tonex. I will also use the built in FX of the GX to cover the FX I don't have as I build out my board. The GX would also act as my fly rig that I could pull of my larger board when I need to travel light.

Can the GX do all of this? I've tried doing my due research but honestly more confused then anything. It SEEMS like it's doable but I don't want to pull the trigger on a unit that won't be useful.
