Asking for platonic friends for checking in on each other

I'm 36, not mentioning gender to keep it really platonic. Would it be a weird ask to connect with people via DM. People like myself who would feel better if someone checks in on them every couple of days or weekly? It can be just one interesting thing that happened on that day.

I live alone far from my family. I have friends but it is always hard for me to open up to them. I always open up much easily with internet friends.

Little something about what's going on in my life- recently I'm feeling the need to connect and talk with someone. After 4 years of staying single I caught feelings for an ex-coworker but they did not reciprocate. I'm okay with it and I completely respect their decision but you know how it feels right after a rejection. Although I'm not particularly asking to talk about romantic feelings but we can talk about it.

My interests are all over the places. Music is my jam, especially 80s/90s rock and metal but I listen to most genres. I like watching movies specially in theaters. I watch a lot of comedy podcasts on YouTube. I like cars and long drives. I work as a business analyst and we can talk about work too.
