Can I use TrueNAS to host my Unifi and IoT OS's via VMs?

I am moving away from Apple and want to try my hand and self-hosting and privacy friendly set-ups but I don't have the time or energy to learn like fiver different systems; truenas, proxmox, ubuntu, unifi network application, osmc and so on. So I was wondering if I could just use virtual machine on true nas - one for my network and security setup and the other for my smart home and media server?

Would this work? That way at least I won't need to learn proxmox too.
