Coconut oil for dog's itchy skin?

I have a nearly 7 y/o chiweenie. Lately, she scratches all the time. There was a bout with fleas recently but she's been to the vet and treated with Bravecto and I've treated the environment.

Due to the scratching, the vet prescribed Prednisone and she was on it, on a tapered schedule, for about a week. In the beginning, when it was twice a day, the scratching seemed to go away aside from the occasional one.

Since being off of it, she's back to scratching all the time. I'm considering asking the vet if he thinks she should be on it more regularly but I hate the idea of having her on something like that.

I've been doing a lot of reading and a lot of people seem to recommend rubbing a small amount of unrefined virgin coconut oil into the dog's skin daily (pea size for her weight) but.. do y'all think doing that is ok or could help ease the scratching? Tysm💕
