What packs/boxes should I buy for my son who just started collecting?

Looking for some advice here as I’m somewhat clueless..

My 10 year old son is absolutely obsessed with basketball, he recently started asking me to take him to get basketball cards once he saves enough of his allowance up to afford a pack or basic box in which we go to the larger stores (dicks, target, etc.) to purchase.

We have one local store that specializes in sports cards, and one that is more so Pokémon/magic based. I brought him to check out the sports store but I could tell he was overwhelmed and super intimidated when I suggested we ask somebody there to help us and explain to him some basic insight into the hobby.

With that being said I figured it was worth a shot to ask here…

I want to do something special for him for Christmas. What boxes do you guys recommend I grab him that’ll give him a better chance of pulling something cool that’ll have him amped up for the holidays?
