Frequent Ibuprofen
My son is 2 years old and in daycare. Inevitably, he gets sick a lot. He also has a reactive airway which means that every runny nose turns into a brutal cough. We have him on 2 puffers to help with this. When he's sick, we can manage during the day, but struggle at night. He gets terrible coughing fits and can't sleep and gets quite upset. (Which means that I also don't sleep). One thing that tends to work to settle the cough is infant Advil (ibuprofen). It actually lets him sleep with very little coughing. Usually we can get away with just giving him one dose at night. However, he's sick so often that I feel that we're giving it too frequently. I keep records of when I give him meds and it usually ends up being a few nights every month (naturally more so during cold and flu season). I am worried that we are doing long-term damage to his liver and kidneys.
We also use a humidifier in his room and baby vapour rub. Is there anything else we can do to avoid meds? I just feel at a loss here. Is making him tough it out and not sleep really the better option?
