Staying at our friend’s place for Christmas - what gift would be more appreciated?

We’ve been invited to spend Christmas at our Australian friend’s house for a full week. They’ll be hosting us, and we’ll be staying in their home.

We want to bring a gift to show our appreciation, but we’re torn between two options:

• A portrait of them (couple) printed on canvas
• A nice box of chocolates

Which one do you think they’d appreciate more as a host gift? Is a personalised canvas thoughtful, or could it come across as too much? And is chocolate a safer, more traditional option? Thanks!
