Am I settling???
So I, 21F, and my boyfriend, 20M, have been together for 3 years. We live together (signed a lease over the summer) and have a cat together. My bf is in college, and I'm taking trade classes and will be applying for jobs sometime in the new year. Our lives are soooooo intertwined; we've gone on family vacations together, and his family has become my family. I love him so much, but recently I can't help but wonder if I'm settling.
For our anniversary this past year, his gift to me was planning a picnic for us. Since our anniversary is during the winter, it was clear that this would be a belated gift. However, it's been 10 months, and still no picnic. I've brought it up several times over the year, and I've told him that this doesn't need to be a surprise due to our work schedules; I just didn't want to be the one who plans it.
He's also not that romantic of a partner. He's not someone who gives any complaints, plans any dates, buys flowers, or anything like that. I understand not all people show their love like this; however, this is something I've brought up several times over our relationships, and nothing changes even slightly.
According to his mom, his father is similar, which was one of the reasons they got a divorce 10 years ago. I haven't talked to his mom about these exact things, but along the lines, they both wait until the last minute to do anything, and "walk to the beat of their own drum." Which is completely fine, but I feel like I'm not a priority when he said he was going to plan a date for us for our anniversary, which was 10 months ago, and still hasn't happened.
Am I settling or just reading too much into things? I love him so much, and can't imagine a future without him in it, but I need some outsiders' opinions.
